Svetlana Askenazy is a mixed-media artist in New York. She was born in Russia and trained in Civil Engineering Management. She came back to painting in 2019 and has worked full time as an artist since 2022.
She builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, molding paste and crushed stone. Edge of Becoming, her diptych for Chicago, is fire on one panel and water on the other.
She has shown at ArtExpo New York, VOLTA New York and the Hamptons Fine Art Fair, and in In the Heat of Becoming at Collective Z in 2026. She is a juried member of Piermont Flywheel Gallery.

Artist statement
My work inhabits the heat of becoming, where inner pressure builds, and identity exists in flux, suspended between states, desires, and forms. I am drawn to moments of tension, when emotion burns, smolders, or erupts into transformation. Figures emerge, dissolve, or rise within abstract and elemental environments that reflect vulnerability, resilience, and release. Using multiple techniques and layered processes, I allow material and gesture to mirror psychological and physical change. These works hold heat as both energy and sensation, inviting viewers to experience becoming not as a destination, but as an ongoing, embodied unfolding.
